I was DJing at Club Soda (downtown Montreal) last friday, for the PROMODE 2009 event, organized by École Polytechnique’s Promo 133.
The evening started as a fashion show from 8:30 PM to about 10:30 PM, when the actual party started. The first DJ was mixing (and did a great job at starting the party and getting people to dance) from then until around 11:50 PM, when I took over. Then, I was mixing until around 1:05 AM, when the last DJ took over for the rest of the night.
It was a great evening, and I had lots of fun being there and DJing too. I hope the people that were there enjoyed it as much as I did! There must have been lots of work put into this evening to make it work like it did, because everything went smoothly throughout the night.
More after the break, including a download link to my mix, which was recorded live.

Now about my DJ set… The first track in my set didn’t work out as I expected with the crowd, so I switched sooner than later to a track that definitely got people dancing. Then everything went well until I made a small mistake around 45:50 into my set… no one’s perfect! After that, everything went well until the last track, when the next DJ was preparing for his set, and pressed the wrong button on the CD player that was live… once again, not a big deal 🙂 The music just changed speed and pitch rather drastically, which sounded slightly weird. But then the music came back to its normal speed and pitch when I fixed the tempo…
Anyhow, that’s about it. You can download the mix here (right-click the link, and then choose “Save As”, to save the mix to your computer).
Let me know in the comments below what you think about it!
Recording technical specs for those interested: the mix was recorded as a digital stream straight from the DJM-800 mixer, at 24-bit/48 kHz (CD players were CDJ-1000mk3’s). The volume was then normalized to 0 dB (peak), and compressed slightly to raise the level and make the mix sound a bit more like it did in the club. The recording was then downsampled to 16-bit and encoded to m4a.
